Campaign
Campaign - Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 pm at Millennium Games.
Below you will find all the basic information you will need for character building.
Character Creation
Character Connection / Background
Each character either grew up together, or have known each other for sometime. All have a connection to Kalie, and you would know each of the other characters on your own or through Kalie.
Starting Level: 1st
Ability Scores
Roll 4d6, reroll 1s, drop the lowest.
Alternatively you can use either the standard set (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, & 8) or the point buy system with 27 points (PHB, pg. 13 or the SRD).
If you choose to roll your ability scores, but end up not liking them, you can then choose to switch to one of the alternative options. You can't reroll your ability scores.
Heritage/Ancestry (Race)
We will follow the additional racial guidelines outlined in Monsters of the Multiverse (MotM).
You can choose any of the standard races as well as the following (from MotM):
- Aasimar
- Changeling
- Deep Gnome
- Duergar
- Eladrin
- Firbolg
- Sea Elf
- Shadar-kai
- Shifter
Ancestry Ability Score Increase Instead of the racial ability score increases (found in the PHB) for non-human races, follow the rules in MotM. You can choose to increase one ability score by 2 points and another by 1 point, or three ability scores by 1 point each.
If your character is human, you can choose to use the standard option, or the variant human option (PHB, pg. 31).
Ancestry Languages Common, plus one additional language of your choice, regardless of ancestry chosen.
Alignment
I don't really use alignment, and it serves more as general guidelines for character behavior. You can choose any alignment except for Chaotic Neutral or anything evil.
Feats
I allow the use of feats. Each character gets one at first level. If you choose the variant human option, you gain an additional feat.
You have the ability to choose to take a new feat instead of the Ability Score Improvement for your class whenever that becomes available.
Equipment
You start with the standard equipment selection or gold to buy equipment for your chosen class. Alternatives or additions need DM approval.
In addition, you will start with one minor magical item with DM's approval - See the DMG, pg. 135 or D&D Beyond. Your chosen magical item will require an explanation for how you obtained it, such as a family heirloom, mentor gift, etc.
Religion
If your character follows a religion, see the World Lore section on available deities. Talk to me if you wish to create a new one, or need a new one created for your character.
Gender
I welcome any and all gender divinity for player characters.
In this game world gender diversity is uncommon, but not unheard of. It is a magical world. The concept is generally not given much of a thought and does not harbor the resentment or anxiety that our world manifests.
Put your gender presentation, regardless of sex, on your character sheet.
Please let me know if your character is gender diverse. You are also welcome to work with me to create aspects of the world or secondary encounters (such as two-spirit people, transgender changelings, etc.) around gender identity if you would like to do so.
Height, Weight, and Other Physical Characteristics
Fill in as appropriate for your character, regardless of ancestry chosen.
Character Story / Background
Please provide enough backstory for your character with at least one or two hooks. I only want at most one to two pages worth of history. You are after all just starting out on your adventuring life. At most you have killed plump rats, or done hunting of minor creatures.
Your backstory probably includes mentorship, apprenticeship, or formal academic study. How did you come across your skills and abilities in the first place?
With my approval, I allow players to create minor world details as needed for their character. This can be as generic (in which case I will flesh out as needed) or as specific as you want. Just consult with me and we will make it work.
Local / Background
You are a group of friends in the frontier town known only as "The Gates." Symbolized by the two massive gates that block the western, and only, pass into the mountains. Things have been peaceful your whole life, but lately a series of small events has started to roil the town. Even you and your friends have started to feel the tension rise.
It started a few weeks ago when a merchant wagon came thundering through town crashing into the square. Merchant trains are common and the main source of commerce for your town, and the occasional attack does happen, but with this, nothing seems to have been taken and the only body, that of the driver, found long dead with the reins firmly gripped in his hands.
Just last week, a section of one of the few local farms suddenly dried up and the crop was lost.
This week, a mischief of rats swarmed out of the local inn's basement.
That's just some of the odd happenings in town.
Now, your friend Kalie, a young priestess of the sun god, has told you about strange sounds emanating from below the temple. While this is not unusual for such an old building, she thinks the sounds are different and with everything going on has became uneasy. You agreed to explore with Kalie to help ease her mind...
House Rules
Technical / Tools
- Character Sheets: D&D Beyond
- Character Profile (Optional): Hero Forge
Encumbrance
I don't require you to track item weight. If it seems like it's a problem then I'll note it and apply penalties as the situation requires.
XP
I use the milestone style of character advancement
Note Taking
Please take notes during the sessions. This is generally good practice and you may find it helpful. I will refrain from reminding you of things (unless your character generally would remember clearly) so if you fail to take notes, you will be at a loss.
Miscellaneous
Please provide me with your feedback when appropriate (not during game sessions unless it's critical, such as a safety card). I want to provide the best game possible and for all of us to have fun.
I'm always here if you need to talk, if there is a problem, or you have a question. If you need privacy, you can easily message or email me. If it's sensitive or you wish other players not to know, please let me know that.
Behavior
- Be kind to each other. Of course, discussions and disputes will happen, but this is a friendly and open table.
- If I mess up a rule, let me know after the session. Please do not interrupt the session to voice these concerns. It's okay to be confused and mention that you thought it meant this, but after I move on, it's time to let it go.
- Metagaming is generally frowned upon except for the next note.
- Please try to go with the flow and the group and not be a pain in my ass with your character always trying to be a loner or leave the party. Yes, there is a little metagaming here, but it's for the group's general enjoyment and smooth operation of gameplay.
- The show must go on, and any issues can be addressed afterward or sometimes between sessions.
- I encourage the use of safety cards or other safety tools if you desire.
